Dell is Hell
29 02 2008As promised, here’s my explanation:
Alright so I haven’t had a computer for all of February and haven’t had a problem free computer since early January. Why? Because Dell is Hell. In early January I started having the same problems that I had in November with my Dell laptop. Kept getting this same pop up that wouldn’t go away, said McAfee had a corrupt file, etc. Well the solution in November was to ship me a new hard drive which I was fine with. So I call up Dell expecting to go through the same process and then eventually them saying that they’ll ship me another hard drive. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I would estimate that in 3 weeks, I spent a total of 24 hours on the phone with Dell customer service. Through those phone calls, I got nowhere. I was told that they needed to ship me some discs in an attempt to reinstall Windows Vista. I asked how many problems would it take for them to give me another computer seeing mine is a lemon and they said that no matter how problems I have with my laptop, they will never give me another computer. I found that astonishing.
Anyways so through all of these weeks of being without a computer, I actually wasn’t as upset as I probably should have been. It was a nice little break from poker. So finally I get the discs and by this time I really want to get the Dell back and running because I missed poker, checking my email, aim, etc. I get the callback from Dell and they start going through the process of reinstalling Windows Vista and finally get to where its actually downloading and the guy says that it should take an hour and he’ll schedule a callback in an hour. An hour later the process is completed and all I have is a recycle bin on my desktop. I was pretty sure all I had to do is load the other discs but I decided to wait another hour for them to call. They obviously didn’t so I tried loading the discs on and ran into problems and they wouldn’t load. 4 hours after I was supposed to get the callback, they call.
I answer and its an machine who says they’re linking me to technical support. I’m on hold for 5 minutes and then it says “we’re sorry, there are too many people on the line” and they hang up on me. It’s astonishing how anyone can run a business like that. But that didn’t surprise me in the least considering previous things Dell technical support had said and done. So the next day, 22 hours after I was supposed to receive the callback, its Dell again. It’s the same moron who I said he’d call me back. We go through some bullshit steps that a 7 year old knows won’t fix anything and then he says that I screwed everything up by trying to load the discs on. I said ”so it’s my fault that you called 22 hours after you were supposed to? It’s my fault that I figured you were never calling back so I tried to get my computer running?” Unfortunately for Omkar, or Jason as he likes to be called, his screen didn’t have an answer for that so I asked to talk to his manager.
This is a good time to tell you that throughout this whole process and talking with all these morons, yes all of Dell’s impossible to understand Customer Support people are morons, I never once raised my voice or swore. Unfortunately that would come to an end when I talked with his manger Umkush. I was just so frustrated and he kept making moronic comments like “sir, if you understand English you’d realize that I cannot help you” If I understand English?!?? This coming from some moron in India who could barely pronounce the word “English.” I realize now that I’m rambling on and I have a billion nightmare stories about Dell that are so unfathomable you probably won’t believe them anyway so I’ll just stop here. What ended up happening is that I realized I needed a new computer.
Whether I get the Dell running perfectly again or not, its just a matter of time till there’s another problem with it so I need a backup. I started doing some research and wanted to get a laptop with a 1920×1200 resolution like my Dell so I could 12 table with no overlap but there’s only a handful out there and they all cost minimum $2,300 so I decided to buy a 17″ HP Pavillion and get a 24″ monitor to go with it. I ordered both of them online last Thursday. I ordered the pre-built model because I wasn’t willing to wait, I wanted it within 2 days. That’s how I am as a consumer, if I want something immediately, I’m gonna get it no matter how much it costs. Saturday rolls around and in tracking it I see it hasn’t even been shipped out yet.
I call up HP to see wtf is going on. At first they say its the pre-built model, then they say that I ordered a customized Pavillion and I’d have it by March 5th. I say no I ordered the pre-built model but they have on record me ordering a fully customized laptop. Like you gotta be kiddin me, how do they have me down for customized when I clicked “buy pre-built”. So I say just change it but nope, they can’t do that. They say the best they can do is put in a cancellation request which might not work and then order another pre built. Please tell me someone who runs half as bad as me with computers. Impossible, no one runs worse than me. Anyways so I ordered another and got it on time (Wednesday) and the monitor came on Monday. I also bought this brand new chair and I’m buying a huge desk this weekend. I’m gonna have a pretty ballin set up.
As for poker, when you have a month of not playing at all, you tend to become hungry for money and my plan is to go back to grinding $36 turbo stts Mon-Thurs and hopefully back to making $6k a month and then play multis Fri-Sun.
Just to conclude, I want to apologize for not having any entries for so long. It’s gonna be back to the way it was now that I actually have a computer to type them up. Also, to anyone thinking about buying a Dell, don’t. I wouldn’t wish on anyone the bullshit I’ve gone through with their customer support.
